Mansion Block Apartment

Apartment refurbishment & furnishing

Overview

A classic London mansion-block apartment refurbished and fully furnished — panelled reception rooms, restored cornice, chandeliers and a soft, pale palette that lets the period proportions do the talking. Photographed on completion.

The Brief

Challenge, approach, outcome

01

The challenge

Mansion blocks have magnificent proportions and awkward realities: deep-set windows that swallow daylight, long dark corridors, and lath-and-plaster walls that resist every modern service run.

02

Our approach

The palette was kept pale and reflective — cream, bone, brushed brass — so the daylight that does arrive is used twice. Corridors were treated as rooms in their own right, with lit joinery and dark lacquered doors punctuating the run, and the reception rooms furnished symmetrically so the original proportions are reinforced rather than fought.

03

The client’s goal

A period apartment that feels light and current without erasing what makes it worth owning.
