Prince Salon

Commercial fit-out — retail & hospitality

Overview

A London salon fit-out delivered end to end — shopfront, arched treatment bays, marble counters and a chandelier that gives a narrow unit a sense of occasion. Commercial work runs to a different clock than residential: the unit is not earning while it is closed.

The Brief

Challenge, approach, outcome

01

The challenge

A long, narrow unit with a single street frontage, a fixed opening date, and a client whose revenue stops for every day the doors are shut. It also had to look generous from the pavement, because that is where the customer decides.

02

Our approach

Arched openings were cut along the length of the unit, which breaks the corridor into a sequence of rooms and makes a narrow plan feel deliberate rather than cramped. Mirrors and marble were placed to bounce the shopfront light all the way to the back wall, and the programme was sequenced so the front of house could open while the rear was still being finished.

03

The client’s goal

Open on time, trade from day one, and look considerably more expensive than the floor area suggests.

Materials, light and detail

Materials & finishes

Lighting strategy

A brass chandelier gives the room its occasion; mirror-flanking lights do the working light at face height, because a salon lives or dies on how the client sees themselves.
